Game of Choice

Långström Minna

Set in a dark room, the interactive installation consists of 20 sculptures made of colourful recycled plastic materials which are lit from the inside. As the viewer gets close enough to inspect the objects, the lights turn off. Instantly, two other sculptures start to glow and play inviting tunes. The viewer chooses which one to approach. The statues are like irresistible products: once possessed, they lose their glow. The work depicts the illusory quality of choice: what is a choice, and what in life are we actually able to choose?

Minna Långström is a media artist who works with short film and installation. Through visual experimentation, her works often deal with screen based visual culture in relation to the subjective human experience. Some of her participatory installations focusses on social perspectives on technologically mediated narratives, while her more recent short films and immersive installations deal with certain political histories - and their influences on the present.
