Soukka Saku

Senses of a Blind is a photograph projection in which photos fades in and out and sometimes they are blinking faster. The work deals with thematics of seeing, hiding and appearance – and the relation in-between human and animal in dark landscapes and places. The sound consists of field recordings.

Saku Soukka works mostly with film and photography. He has a master's degree of visual arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki 2016, and he has studied photography as well. Encounters and dialogues between the organic and industrial, internal and external, as well as stagnation and movement are present in his art. He has had about 25 solo exhibitions and participated in about 30 group exhibitions in Finland, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Hungary, Netherlands, South Korea and Germany. Now he is making his first feature-length documentary film about the Extinction Rebellion Finland. Soukka’ss artworks are autofictive, narrative and documentary in style, and they have often combined text, image and sound, e.g. video works, photo and poetry book Paperipeili (Noxboox, 2016) and audio poems. His passion is to create works that are psychologically profound, poetic and visually fascinating.
