Scarves

Ylikoski Maria

Scarves subtly depicts the status of women, and the knowledge and wisdom hidden behind various visible and invisible scarves. The work focuses on the scarves kept by Ester Markkola, Finland's former President Urho Kekkonen's long-time housemaid. Ester recalls the events related to the scarves. She is not visible, only the scarves are floating in the void. The wind blows and the events of the Cold War filter in with the voices of Khrushchev, Kennedy and Kekkonen.
