Questions for My Aunts is a short documentary featuring a candid conversation between the artist and her mother, aunts, and grandmother in Iran. Through reflections on the deeply contested issue of hijab—from the 1979 Revolution to the 2022 Jin, Jiyan, Azadi movement—the work explores personal belief, society, and women’s everyday negotiations with power.

Elham Rahmati is a visual artist based between Helsinki and Tehran. She is the co-founder/co-editor of NO NIIN Magazine. Elham holds an MA in Visual Arts from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze and an MA in Visual Culture, Curating, & Contemporary Art from Aalto University. Her artistic work engages with memory of the oppressed as a weapon, asking how this resilient memory can enable continued creation, resistance, and the preservation of lived histories, even as oppression confuses, numbs, and pressures individuals into internalizing the worldview of oppressors.
