Videos by HNV Collective, Pink Twins, and Niina Suominen at Videomedeja

25th International New Media Art Festival Videomedeja is held from October 14–16 2021 in Novi Sad, Serbia. Honkasalo-Niemi-Virtanen Collective’s Atomic (2020, in featured image) and Pink Twins’ The Eternal (2021) were selected for the competitions of the festival.

Atomic will be screened on Friday, October 15 at 20:00. Atomic is a poetic journey, which tells the story of one particular jewel. The jewel was commissioned by the US army in 1945. The ornamental stone is radioactive Trinitite, which was born as a side product of the first nuclear test in New Mexico. In this small object merge total violence, beauty, precious, sublime and particular materials and human incompleteness.

The Eternal is on view as an installation during the festival. Chinese classical gardens are a synthesis of a thousand years of landscaping, architecture, poetry and painting. The idealized artificial terrain of the gardens have influenced artists for centuries to create architypal landscapes images, which in turn have inspired garden design. The gardens are trancendental spaces, providing artificial landscapes and virtual oases to silence the surrounding megalopolitan overload. In their new work “The Eternal” chaos animators Pink Twins distort the views of gardens with a crystal-like caleidoscopic tunnel, adding a psychedelic layer to ancient harmonic panoramas.
