
Uppsala Short Film Festival is held from October 21–27, 2024. Several films by AV-arkki’s artists are again included in the festival program.
Ville Koskinen’s teeth (2024) (featured image) is screened in the International Competition series titled Secret Stories. In the In popular culture, the escalator has been depicted as a path to the afterlife. This film portrays the metro station’s escalators as an intermediate space, and directs our attention to the other side of the conveyor to the engine room, where the workers who maintain the machinery are having lunch.

Samira Elagoz & Z Walsh’s film You can’t get what you want but you can get me (2024) is screened in the International Competition series 6 × Love. The film is an intimate slideshow chronicling how two trans masculine artists fall madly in love.

Anssi Kasitonni’s Pena’s Special Hauling (2024) is screened in the International Competition series Future Distorted. Pena has been a truck driver for five decades. Recently his memory is failing, which causes him a few problems here and there. Finally the law enforcement have caught up with him as well. Luckily he has friends and family who support him during his journey as a hauler who drives only on weekends.

Pilvari Pirtola’s film f41 (2023) and Salla Tykkä’s Pure Hate (1996) are screened in the special program PUNK!, as part of the Punk’s Not Dead, It’s Live event.
f41 refers to code F41.1 which is the diagnosis code used for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. It is an anxiety disorder characterized by excessive, uncontrollable and often irrational worry, that is, apprehensive expectations about events or activities. This excessive worry often interferes with daily functioning.

Pure Hate (1996) shows a woman’s ritualistic journey to the forest where she shoots clean, white picture frames into pieces. As the white gypsum dust settles, birds are singing and the woman’s eyes clear up.

Pasi “Sleeping” Myllymäki: Cut Arteries (1984)
Pasi “Sleeping” Myllymäki’s Cut Arteries (1984) is screened in the series PUNK! 4: Charming Children of Their Time. Cut Arteries is a demo by Sleeping & the Beds. A song about the suicidal feelings of the sinister youth. The negative black and white footage portrays festivalgoers of Ämyrock 1984.
