Maija Blåfield’s On Destruction and Preservation (2018) will be screened at Twisted Oyster Film & New Media Festival, held in Zhou B Art Center, Chicago, from 20.7.–5.8. The festival is presented as an annually themed-based film and new media art exhibition that showcases and promotes the works of both aspiring and established professionals.
Premiered at Visions du réel, Nyon, Maija Blåfield’s film tells five stories on destruction and preservation. The narration ranges from essay film to direct documentary while stories vary from a sex scene of fungi to a sightseeing tour into the climate change in the arctic Svalbard.
Maija Blåfield is a filmmaker and artist from Helsinki, Finland. Her works lay between experimental film and documentary. She was granted the State Prize for the Media Arts in 2014 and nominated for Ars Fennica award on 2017.
