Elina Oikari’s Paris Diaries (2019) is included in the programme at Split Film Festival, held in Split, Croatia from September 10–17. The work is competing in the Competition Shorts programme. It will be screened on September 16 at 18:45 (CET).
Paris Diaries portrays a young and unsuccessful artist trying to find a theme for her short film in Paris. She gets overwhelmed by too many topics and ends up just recording the process. The film depicts the challenges of filmmaking in an absurd and spontaneous fashion that interweaves rough interviews and personal exploration. This hybrid of a documentary and essay film captures tangibly zeitgeist of the city.
Elina Oikari is a filmmaker who works with fiction, documentary, and alternative film. She has graduated with a Master of Arts from the ELO Film School Finland in Aalto University majoring in documentary film directing (2014). Oikari’s work often explores current social themes connected with timeless places and stories. Using a sharp palette of absurd humor and reflective visual language she aims to push the boundaries of cinema.
