Sanna Liljander‘s film When Will the Day Break (2024) won the Blickfang Prize awarded for the Best International Experimental Film at the Filmfest Schleswig-Holstein. The festival took place from 17-21 March, 2026 in Kiel, Germany.
The jury described the film as follows:
“Memories of a summer day, or maybe just the dream of what could have been. A trip to the lake interweaves digital and analogue images, combining the sadness of age and illness, with the poetical beauty of nature and togetherness. Swans reversing in time, a handpainted yellow stain dancing across the screen, the fragmented self screenprinted directly onto the film material. The layers carefully connected by a sensitive sound design.
Sanna Liljander composes a homage to analogue, handcrafted filmmaking and the enduring love of her protagonists.”
