
Maarit Suomi-Väänänen’s Log Head (2015) and Jussi Eerola’s Grasshopper (2023) will be screened at Regensburg Short Film Week, held from March 16–26 2023 in Germany. Log Head is included in the screening Plattenfilme on Tuesday, March 21, at 19:30 in Stentor Kino. Grasshopper will be screened in the Partyfilme screening on Monday, March 20, at 21:00 in Centrum der junge Kultur Theatersaal.
Log Head is an experimental comedy about a birch log with a soul and a pair of skis. When old and useless, and ready to be chopped, Log Head takes off to its skis. Will Log Head’s escape be blocked?
Maarit Suomi-Väänänen works as a filmmaker and media artist. Praised as fascinating, absurd and open to a multitude of interpretations, Suomi-Väänänen’s award-winning works are shown in exhibitions, on TV, at biennales and festivals over 40 countries. Suomi-Väänänen has won two main prizes: Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Montreal, 2009 and Toronto Urban Film Festival 2014 (judge Guy Maddin).
Grasshopper is a minimalistic musical where the night falls down on empty business premises – and lights go up!
Finnish filmmaker and cinematographer Jussi Eerola (1969) has worked as director of photography on many international award-winning films from prominent Finnish directors and artists. His directorial debut was in 2009 with Refugees of Technocracy, a documentary about electro-hypersensitive people. Return of the Atom (2015) received the Best Nordic Film prize at CPH:DOX and it was co-directed with Mika Taanila, one of the people with whom Eerola founded Elokuvayhtiö Testifilmi, a Finnish film production company. Blue Honda Civic is his directorial short film debut.
