Artor Jesus Inkerö and Aurora Reinhard contribute to RE/defining Masculinities

Aurora Reinhard’s Boygirl (2002) and Artor Jesus Inkerö’s Swole (2017) are included in the programme RE/defining Masculinities from November 27–30, in Brussels, Belgium, in collaboration with the Beursschouwburg arts centre. The programme also includes Inkerö’s new performance, Score.

RE/defining Masculinities is a project by the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux that aims to present and discuss the subject of masculinities from new and cross-disciplinary perspectives, through a series of cultural events and academic discussions realised in Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland.

A looped screening of Aurora Reinhard’s film Boygirl (approx. 11 mins) and Artor Jesus Inkerö’s Swole (approx. 7 mins) will be shown at Black box, Beursschouwburg.

Aurora Reinhard‘s Boygirl is based on interviews of three young person who tell what do they think about their appearances, gender, and their place in the society.

Artor Jesus Inkerö on Swole: I continue to document my commitment to an intensive and transformative gym and diet regimen, as well as the communities that form around such activities, sustaining themselves through texting and sharing videos and photos on social media. I learn the vocabulary of my new community.

Inkerö’s performance Score takes Place on Thursday, November 28, and on Friday, November 29, at 20:30 in Beursschouwburg. In their performance, Inkerö examines how language, gestures, and other ways of signaling and communicating between people may deny or allow access to specific groups, and how these physical patterns affect western culture as a whole.
