Nordisk Panorama has unveiled its competition selection. This year Nordisk Panorama will be a hybrid festival mixing online screenings with select in-person events in Malmö. Audiences in all five Nordic countries will have access to free streaming of the films as well as talks and masterclasses during the festival 17–27 September.
New short films by Pilvi Takala, Mika Taanila, and Risto-Pekka Blom were selected for the Best Nordic Short Film competition.
Taking place annually in Helsinki, SLUSH is a three-day super event that aims to invigorate the tech-startup community by bringing together entrepreneurs with venture capitalists in a party-like environment. If Your Heart Wants It (Remix) (2020, in featured image) is grounded in research Pilvi Takala conducted at the 2018 edition of SLUSH. Together with an interdisciplinary team and camera crew, they fabricated a startup in order to gain entry.

Mika Taanila’s Patent No. 314805 (2020) premiered in the international competition of International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. The experimental short film is an experimental composition on how the Finnish engineer Eric Tigerstedt solved the dilemma of sound-on-film already before World War I. All images and sounds are produced from the surviving test materials originally created in 1914.
Risto-Pekka Blom’s Canary (2020) is a short fiction film. Every morning thousands of children go to school like canaries in a coal mine, measuring toxicity. The film studies the chain of harassment and how we all are broken in different ways.
