Anikó Kuikka’s Anki Under awarded and installed in Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre

Anikó Kuikka is awarded with The Next Thing Award for her video Anki Under (2016). The work will be shown alongside works of nine other next generation moving image artists in the Moving Image Gallery, Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre from November 25 to January 27.

The video tells about Anki whose left amygdala is smaller than the other one. She lives a solitary life and is afraid of everything outside the four walls of her apartment. Anki gets a strange phone call and defies her fears in the hope for finding love. She travels into her subconscious and recovers from her troubles.

Anikó Kuikka (b.1986) is a Los Angeles based Finnish artist. She is a graduate from the Royal Academy of Arts in London awarded with a post graduate diploma in fine arts. She graduated as Master in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. Kuikka makes narrative moving image installations about the absurd construct of reality. Drawing from mythologies and fairytales, her characters play out archetypes and social power structures, aiming to deconstruct pre-existing values, the psyche, and identity.
