‘New Media & Art Fairs’
Amanda Schmitt in conversation with Anna Mustonen
Friday 7th June 2019 / Helsinki Contemporary
4pm–5.30pm
The conversation will concentrate on digital art, video in particular, in the context of UNTITLED, ART fair and other international art fair settings. Amanda Schmitt will discuss the ways in which digital art can be displayed as part of art fair programming and in gallery booths, and also draw practical examples around the ‘Future Delay’ exhibition on display at Helsinki Contemporary, curated by Schmitt.
Amanda Schmitt is an independent curator focusing on video, sound, performance and new media and has curated over 40 exhibitions, video screenings and performances. Schmitt is the Director of Programming and Development for the UNTITLED, ART fair in Miami Beach and San Francisco, overseeing Special Projects and Programming, and has launched the innovative programs, UNTITLED, ART Radio and the UNTITLED, ART Podcast, platforms that take the place of the customary program of fair panels, replacing it with live and pre-recorded audio and musical performances, talks and interviews, curated playlists, readings, and experimental recordings. In January 2018, Schmitt debuted the fair’s newest platform, UNTITLED, ART Cinema, partnering with the Bay Area’s most respected film and video archives and organisations.
Anna Mustonen is an independent curator and arts professional based in Helsinki, with keen interest in new media and moving image. Mustonen currently works for international digital arts platform Daata Editions overseeing its projects and commissions in Northern Europe.
The conversation is part of a lecture series organised by AV-arkki, the Centre for Finnish Media Art, which endeavours to share information about media art and the art market. The series has been kindly supported by Ministry of Education and Culture, and will continue in autumn 2019.
