Marja Helander’s, Sami van Ingen’s, & Pilvi Takala’s works in the Nordic Competition of Minimalen SFF

Marja Helander’s Eatnanvuloš Lottit – Birds in the Earth (2018), Sami van Ingen’s Flame (2018), and Pilvi Takala’s The Stroker (2019) were selected in the Nordic Competition of Minimalen Short Film Festival, held from January 22–27 in Trondheim, Norway.

Marja Helander‘s Birds in the Earth is a short film based on dance. The main characters are two young Sámi ballet students; Birit and Katja Haarla. The movie tells a bit melancholic story through their dance performances. At the same time it examines the deeper questions of the ownership of Sámi land.

Pilvi Takala: The Stroker (2019)

Pilvi Takala: The Stroker (2019)

The Stroker is based on Pilvi Takala’s two week-long intervention at Second Home, a trendy East London coworking space for young entrepreneurs and startups. During the intervention Takala posed as a wellness consultant named Nina Nieminen, the founder of cutting-edge company Personnel Touch who were allegedly employed by Second Home to provide touching services in the workplace.

Sami van Ingen: Flame (2018)

Sami van Ingen: Flame (2018)

Sami van Ingen ‘s Flame is a fractured melodrama, based on damaged frames from the last minutes of the only remaining nitrate reel of the lost feature film Silja – Fallen Asleep When Young (1937) directed by Teuvo Tulio. All screening prints and the negative of the film were destroyed in a 1959 studio fire. A sequence from the middle of the film was found at La Cinémathèque Française in Paris in 2015.
