Marja Helander’s Birds in the Earth (Eatnanvuloš Lottit) on view at Botkyrka Konsthall, Sweden

Marja Helander’s Birds in the Earth (Eatnanvuloš Lottit) is included in Botkyrka Konsthall‘s film programme titled “We are fluid from all directions, from all directions we meet”.

The film programme is presented within the exhibition format where films are shown one after another on one screen during the opening hours of the art space. It is a three-part film programme that intertwines stories of silences born from loss and oppression, while also exploring the power of care and the need to form communities and create shared spaces.

Birds of the Earth is on view from December 7th, 2024 until 17 January, 2025.

Marja Helander‘s Birds in the Earth (2018) is a short film based on dance. The main characters are two young Sámi ballet students; Birit and Katja Haarla. The movie tells a bit melancholic story through their dance performances. At the same time it examines the deeper questions of the ownership of Sámi land.
