Anssi Kasitonni’s videos Masa (2009) and Finnish Midsummer 2169 (2016) travel this summer to Liverpool, UK, and Poznań, Poland.
Masa is installed in the exhibition called Abacus. The exhibition is open from July 27 to October 1 in Bluecoat, Liverpool. Bluecoat is the UK’s oldest art centre celebrating the 300th anniversary of the building: 200 years as a school, 100 years as an arts centre. Masa is included in the Kids Video Art Program, a collaboration with Kunsthalle Stavanger.
In his nest, a technologically surprisingly advanced and creative guinea pig plots his getaway plans, which always run into the impenetrable wall of his owner’s love. Masa features electric gadgets, bodybuilding, Steve McQueen and surprisingly long monologues spoken in guinea pig language.

Finnish Midsummer 2169 is featured in the screening of Finnish Short Films as a part of Baltic Waves, an outdoor film programme by Short Waves Festival in Poznań. The Finnish short film showcase takes place on July 27.
In the year of 2169 there will be a solar eclipse during Midsummer Eve in Finland. That changes the life of a certain female vampire bat.
Anssi Kasitonni is a skateboarder and an award-winning artist from Sahalahti, Finland. He has worked in music, drawing and sculpture, but to many of his fans, the most beloved of his works are the short films he makes at his own farm. The films deal with age-old questions related to morality, love, death, generation gaps, sexuality and, of course, submarines. The ideas are epic, the films decidedly homespun. His movies create their own world that tells us something essential about ours. Kasitonni won the esteemed Ars Fennica Award in 2011.
