August Joensalo’s Space Is Quite a Lot of Things screened at IFFF Dortmund + Köln and Riga ISFF 2 Annas

August Joensalo’s Space Is Quite a Lot of Things (2021) was screened in the international competition of Riga International Short Film Festival 2 Annas, held from April 7–13 2023 in Latvia. Next, it will be screened in the Desired! – Film Lust and Queer programme of Internationales Frauen Film Fest Dortmund + Köln, held from April 18–27 2023 in Dortmund, Germany. The screening takes place on Sunday, April 23 at 14:00 in Schauburg Dortmund.

In Space Is Quite a Lot of Things, curiosity about a world without gender sets a journey through a world of jellyfish and disco uncles, creating space for four trans people to share how they relate (or not) to their own gender, imagine visions of their own queer utopia, and reveal whether gender can be felt in your toes.

August Joensalo (b.1993) is a film director, writer and photographer based in Finland. They use film and images as mediums for creating relatable utopias for queer and trans people. Their practice is focused on queer time & space, and trans narratives existing outside of the binaries of language, bodies and identities. They graduated from their MFA in Film at HDK-Valand in 2021.
