Liinu Grönlund’s To the Unknown (2017) will have its Czech premiere in the international competition of the 22nd Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, held from October 25–30.
Gröndlund’s film will be screened in the competition programme “A Testimony on Nature“, on Friday, October 26, at 17:30.
To the Unknown is a short documentary film. The flora and fauna of Madagascar fascinate scientists from all over the world. Some spend their entire lives exploring the island. This visually captivating documentary follows several researchers during their work in the inhospitable conditions of the rainforest. A film reflection on the enthusiasm and patience of individuals hungry for the discovery of the unknown.
Liinu Grönlund (b. 1984) is a visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland. She works with video and film, and is interested in archiving disappearing worlds. Her work deals with remoteness and extremes with a special focus on natural sciences and environmentalism. Grönlund has graduated from Aalto University of Art and Design (2008) and the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (2012). Her works have been seen in exhibitions and festivals in e.g. Helsinki, London, Malaga, Moscow and New York.
