Saara Ekström’s Geopsyche (2024), Paula Lehtonen’s Guests of Honor (2024) and Anssi Kasitonni’s Pena’s Special Hauling (2024) are included in the program of Festival Les Instants Vidéo 2024. Geopsyche and Guests of Honor will be on view in the exhibition, which will run from 18 October to 19 January 2025, and the festival will be held in Marseille from 17 to 20 October 2024.

Saara Ekström’s Geopsyche (2024) (featured image) is a journey into deep time – the remarkably slow geological events beyond the reach of our comprehension. By searching for connections between geology, evolution and the subconscious, the film escorts us towards mythical landscapes and a consciousness amassed in the earth’s chronicles, where the existence of humans is just a single era and layer in future sediments to come.

Guest of Honor (2024) is a speechless video, where a dinner is laid on the table. Arriving guests are creatures that are typically found on the plate. The work aims to present this farm animal as an equal to humans, even though the situation, and the perspective, is human-centred.

Anssi Kasitonni’s Pena’s Special Hauling (2024) is screened in the International Competition series Future Distorted. Pena has been a truck driver for five decades. Recently his memory is failing, which causes him a few problems here and there. Finally the law enforcement have caught up with him as well. Luckily he has friends and family who support him during his journey as a hauler who drives only on weekends.
