August Joensalo’s Rootless (2024) A desire to awaken the heritage of a sleeping culture and language their Karelian heritage between a grandfather and grandchild is interrupted by the grandfather’s sudden passing.
Rosaliina Paavilainen’s A Beauty Odyssey (2024) The protagonist’s life derails as she realises that she is rewarded for youth and beauty. This conclusion plunges the protagoninst even deeper into patriarchal beauty rituals, constructing her identity and happiness around her appearance. Film exposes the harsh, hidden realities of beauty care, unveiling the unglamorous side behind polished images.
Samira Elagoz & Z Walsh’s You Can’t Get What You Want But You Can Get Me (2024) is a self-authored, modern slideshow depicts the true love story of two transmasculine artists. From first date to first kiss, top surgery to tattoos, meeting the family to making their transcontinental relationship work, this social media feed of selfies, text messages and musical montages documents their spontaneous, intimate and tender union with joy.
Anssi Kasitonni’s Pena’s Speacial Hauling (2024) Pena has been driving a semi-truck for 50 years and that’s the way he wants it to be in the future as well. He has some slight memory issues but it is not going to stop him.
