Niina Suominen‘s Smoking Spot (featured image), Jukka Silokunnas‘ D/Composition and Sanna Liljander‘s When Will The Day Break will are selected for the 39th Stuttgarter Filmwinter – Festival for Expanded Media, taking place from January 14–21, 2026 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Smoking Spot will compete in the International Short Film Competition, D/Composition in the the 2-Minute-Shorts-Competition, and When Will The Day Break will be screened out of competition as part of the festival’s Patenprogramm.
Smoking Spot (2025) is an experimental film about the loss of the communal smoking area. The work contemplates themes of cultural norms, social meanings and territorial behaviour of human beings. A smoking spot is more than just a place to smoke.

D/Composition (2025) is a stop motion animation about the last piano sonata – realized with a sledge hammer.

When Will the Day Break (2024) is a romantic documentary film that travels on the borders of dreams, memories, hope and realism.
