Ville Koskinen’s teeth (2024) and Azar Saiyar’s Solar Book (2024) to be screened at San Francisco Cinematheque’s CROSSROADS film festival

Ville Koskinen’s teeth (featured image) and Azar Saiyar’s Solar Book are selected in the programme of San Francisco Cinematheque’s annual film festival CROSSROADS, held from August 30–September 1, 2024 in San Francisco, US. CROSSROADS celebrates recent (and rediscovered) artist-made film, video and performance cinema.

In popular culture, the escalator has been depicted as a path to the afterlife. Ville Koskinen‘s teeth (2024) portrays the metro station’s escalators as an intermediate space and peeks to the other side of the conveyor – to the engine room where the workers who maintain the machinery are having lunch.

Azar Saiyar‘s film Solar Book (2024) asks what remains and what gets lost, when a thing becomes a museum object? Many details have gone missing, but the museum objects of Satakunta Museum bear a strong presence of waters running next to it: things that the river and the sea have carried, things that were born, that live and once lived because of them and beside them.
