They Go Gentle into That Night Work (2020) directed by Soile Mottisenkangas and produced by Kimmo Koskinen was awarded as of the best Nordic short documentary at Västerås Film Festival last weekend. The film festival was held in Västerås Sweden on August 20-28 2022.
They Go Gentle into That Night Work is a short documentary film on the nocturnal rhythm of grunt work. A mail carrier, a plate rolling operator and a train driver arrive at the scene of their night shifts. This portrait depicts how they embrace the sphere of their posts. The mechanical repetition eases them into relaxation like a form of meditation.
Soile Mottisenkangas (Master of Arts, Film, Screen Academy, Edinburgh, 2011) is an Espoo-based artist who works with video art, photography and film. Short doc They Go Gentle Into that Night Work also won the Best short film award in Cinalfama, Lisbon, Portugal, 2020.
