Niina Vatanen is a multidisciplinary artist working between the documentary and the imaginary. In her work she uses photographs, texts and archival material; recently also moving images and plants. Drawing from a range of sources, from her personal archives to museum collections, Vatanen consistently explores the nature of time and our perception of it as a central theme in her work. In her multilayered works, Vatanen deliberately steers the viewer’s gaze while exploring the relationship between the perceptible and the unperceived.
