Retrospective by Salla Tykkä (b. 1973) and Finnish Midsummer 2169 by Anssi Kasitonni (b. 1978) have been selected to the international competition of the 62nd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen through AV-arkki’s distribution. The festival will mark the world premiere for Tykkä’s Retrospective, an elegy for analog cameras in a form of a short film essay. Kasitonni’s fable about a daring female vampire bat will have its international premiere at Oberhausen.
Ars Fennica awarded media artist and filmmaker Mika Taanila (b. 1965) is a member of this year’s international jury along with Andrés Denegri (Buenos Aires), Stella Händler (Basel), Marta Kuzma (Stockholm), and Joanna Raczynska (Washington).
AV-arkki presents recent Finnish media art works and experimental shorts at the Distributors’ Screening
A number of international distributors and institutions specialising in art film and avant-garde film present selections from their latest catalogues at Oberhausen. The result is a showcase of current international avant-garde and video art production, featuring established filmmakers and artists as well as new discoveries. AV-arkki’s screening takes place on Friday, the 6th of May at 17:00 in Lichtburg Filmpalast/Sunset. The showcase is curated by AV-arkki’s director Hanna Maria Anttila. The films included in the screening are:

International Short Film Festival Oberhausen is one of the most important experimental film festivals world wide. AV-arkki has participated in the festival for several years, with the aim of presenting and promoting Finnish media art abroad.
