Saara Ekström’s Geopsyche on view at Uppsala Art Museum, Uppsala, Sweden

Saara Ekström‘s Geopsyche is on view at the Uppsala Art Museum, Uppsala, Sweden from September 13th until October 26th, 2025.

Geopsyche (2024) is a three-channel film by Saara Ekström that connects Earth’s ancient geological processes with the inner world of humans. Filmed in sites shaped by powerful natural forces—volcanoes, caves, and geological layers—as well as museum collections preserving traces of life and time, the work reflects on memory, transformation, and deep time.

Through black-and-white imagery and meditative, repetitive music, Geopsyche becomes a poetic exploration of how both Earth and human bodies bear the marks of evolution and planetary history. In the vast timescale of geology, human existence is rendered as a fleeting moment—a thin layer in the planet’s future sediments.
