Saara Ekström‘s Body All Eyes is included in the screening titled ENTANGLE: STRING FIGURES, taking place on November 18, 2025 at 20:30 in Paris, France.

The screening is part of Light Cone’s Scratch Collection #4: Sowing Trouble programme. The programme is curated by film curators and critics Teresa Castro and Alice Leroy.

Body All Eyes (2018) is a requiem for barren skies in which archaic myths of flying through time and space collide with a technological and pragmatic world. It shows a stratosphere of airplanes, drones and surveillance-satellites that are all-seeing and ever-present eyes –  a privilege that once belonged only to gods and their messengers, the birds. In the 8mm split-screen film the supernatural, mechanical, corporal and transcendental confront and embrace each other. A masked acrobat, creating a performative exchange between human and animal, leads the viewer through a torrent of images into a mysterious world, that undulates in a weightless state between heaven and earth.

Working with film, photography, text and site-specific installations, Saara Ekström explores liminality, temporality and the stratification of time and history, moving on the borderlands between the concrete and the allegorical, the past and the future. Messages scratched and burned on the walls of an abandoned prison. Ritual masks emerging from the depths of disappearing forests. Erupting volcanoes creating steaming passages to the underworld and our subconscious. Ekström searches for hidden realms, where myths, culture and nature, the sacred and profane meet. Saara Ekström’s experimental and avantgarde films have been widely shown at international film festivals, and her art has been presented in numerous exhibitions at museums in Europe, America and Asia. She has been recognized among others with the Finnish State Art Prize in 2023, the Finnish media art AVEK award in 2018 and the Southern Finland Art Prize in 2017, as well as with nominations for Below Zero, Ars Fennica and Carnegie Art Awards.
