Pasi ‘Sleeping’ Myllymäki‘s Omena The Apple (featured image), Eino Ruutsalo‘s Food and Ulla Väätäinen & Liisa Karvonen‘s Land’s End to be screened at the 29th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival as part of the section Fascinations: Food. This section presents audiovisual delicacies from around the world, from baking film, to vegan emulsion, exploring food as a metaphor, an object of analysis, decomposition, criticism, nostalgia, and visual gourmandise.
The 29th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival takes place from October 24–November 2, 2025 in Jihlava, Czech Republic.
Omena The Apple (1976) is Myllymäki’s debute film, a poster-like trick film, exposes an apple to opposite forces – the lightness and the weight.

Eino Ruutsalo: Food (1968)
Our food is radioactive. The fallout descends upon our cities and ourselves. It penetrates everywhere. The world takes on new colours, values are upset, and existence involves risk. Only dreams and expectations remain.

Ulla Väätäinen & Liisa Karvonen: Land’s End (1991)
Land’s End addresses the 1991 Gulf War. It is a continually topical critique on the language used in the media coverage of war. It also points to the endless series of frustrating acts caused by violence.
Land’s End forms the second part of the Sorting trilogy that also includes Sunday (1990) and The Seventh Angel (1994).
