Lau Rämö’s Contact and Niina Suominen’s Mindfullmess selected for REX Animation Festival (25–29 November, 2026), Stockholm

Lau Rämö’s Contact (featured image) and Niina Suominen‘s Mindfullmess have been officially selected for the 12th edition of the REX Animation Festival, taking place from 25–29 November, 2026 in Stockholm, Sweden. The films will be featured in the Experimental Program.

In Lau Rämö‘s film Contact (2025), pictures of the sky appear on a phone forgotten outdoors. Nearby, slime trails shimmer in the fading evening light. The animation, unfolding at the pace of a phone conversation, explores crossing paths, multispecies communication, and perception. It is an associative journey into the unknown.

Lau Rämö (b. 1989) is a Helsinki-based media artist. Their work often emerges from rethinking post-anthropocentric existence, engaging with play and participation in a diverse, multispecies world. Rämö holds a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University (2020) and has worked as an exhibiting artist, photographer, and filmmaker since 2015.

Niina Suominen‘s Mindfullmess (2026) is a celebration of neurodiversity. Scattered stimuli dissolve thought into noise—yet within the chaos, a new order emerges as perception shifts into a bodily experience of rhythm and movement, image and sound. What first appears senseless leaves behind traces that may, after all, hold meaning.

Niina Suominen is a visual artist working with experimental moving images using animation and analogue hand-made processes. For over 20 years she has produced short audiovisual films inspired by early experimental animation, exploring late-modern surrealism through self-built tools and repurposed materials.
