There is always a risk of suffocation when swallowed

Henttu Sini

“There is always a risk of suffocation when swallowed” explores corporeal autonomous functions. What happens when a process taken for granted is disrupted for one reason or another? The act of swallowing compares to various normative functions: the subject suppresses their needs and emotions until swallowing becomes impossible.

Sini Henttu works with various media art techniques such as video, media installation and media performance. Their work is guided by questions arising from the concepts of normality, experience of alienation, and the stickiness of being in the world. As a neuroqueer artist, the core of their work is often grounded in sensations that emerge between the body and its environment, such as friction, oddness, joy, compression, and change. Henttu’s work has been presented for example at Galleria Huuto, the Design Museum and Oksasenkatu 11 gallery. They have also collaborated with live art groups as a video artist and performed for example at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Zodiak – Center for New Dance, and Contemporary Art Space Kutomo.
