Mouth wide open
Vuorenmaa Camilla
A gathering of adults in the forest turns into a chilling game of hide-and-seek at the harbor. Camilla Vuorenmaa's short film, Mouth Wide Open (2023), provides a glimpse into the fears and uncertainties of youth. These experiences resonate throughout life like an internal voice, leaving their mark on relationships. The film is not just a poetic play; it serves as an invitation to explore how childhood fears can influence adult relationships.

In her artistic process, it has become increasingly important for her to address fundamental questions by meeting and observing her subjects in authentic situations. This approach has also led her to work with media art alongside her career as a visual artist. Film has always been an inspiring theme behind her work. Vuorenmaa depicts people and humanity in her art. She searches for motifs in magazines, books, and through taking photographs of different groups of people connected by profession, beliefs, hobbies, or shared circumstances. Vuorenmaa (b. 1979) graduated from the Department of Painting at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2005. She lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. In 2017, Vuorenmaa was nominated for Finland's most prestigious art prize, Ars Fennica. She received the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts Prize in spring 2015.
