The imagery of the installation The Big Crunch communicates the presence of humans on earth, evolution and human intelligence. All images are carefully arranged according to the divine proportions. We see images that represent poetically and metaphorically the beginning of mathematical innovations to the projected end of the world, the big crunch. Our observations and our learning shape the universe into being; time is a creation of our minds; laws are generated by our thoughts and conclusions.

Sami Sänpäkkilä lives and works in Tampere, Finland. He is an artist, musician, filmmaker and the head of Fonal Records since 1995. To date he has released five full-length music albums under the name Es. Since 1999 Sänpäkkilä has made installations, short films and music videos, which have been screened in various museums, art galleries and film festivals around the world. His films and the music are experimental moodscapes that explore the themes of melancholy, pathos and hope.
