Pet/Prisoner/Pensioner
Jaakko Pesonen
‘Pet/Prisoner/Pensioner’ is a two-channel video installation. The work unfolds around themes of ageing. It gives the possibility for the viewer to face this complex stage of life. What happens to a society where the elderly are hidden in institutions and lose their role as members of our community? The script of the installation is based on internet chat room discussions on the rights of the elderly, animals and prisoners. Simone de Beauvoir's ‘The Coming of Age’ (1970) and Sara Heinämaa’s ‘Transformations of Old Age’ (2014) are used as the basis for interpreting these complex questions.
