Icarus

Jaakko Pallasvuo

Jaakko Pallasvuo’s video Icarus confronts the audience with the unsparing self-reflection of the position of a young Finnish artist and his relation to his work, his audience and peers. What usually remains behind the scene takes centre stage here: the discomfort with the endless barrage of small talk during openings, the deep hole of depression that can follow a successful international presentation, the self indulgence of the local art scene. We see a protagonist as he hides in the toilet of a museum and follow him on a ride in the roller coaster of a Helsinki amusement park.
