Milja Viita’s Delight at Robert St. (2023, in featured image), August Joensalo’s Space Is Quite a Lot of Things (2021), and Jussi Eerola’s Blue Honda Civic (2020) are currently streaming in THIS IS SHORT platform. The European streaming platform THIS IS SHORT was jointly launched by several film festivals in 2021 and has operated as a year-round and globally available streaming service since November 2023.
Milja Viita’s Delight at Robert St. is included in the Uppsala Short Film Festival’s online selection “Cats and Dogs – A Symphony in Film“. Buddy, an old stray cat in Toronto, had managed to conquer a small territory of his own in the city center. The filmmaker met Buddy’s gaze every time she went out. She befriended her neighbor and captured his last autumn with her old 35mm hand cranked movie camera. Delight at Robert St. is a visual poem about the everyday moments that shape our lives.
Also in the Uppsala Short Film Festival’s window, August Joensalo’s Space Is Quite a Lot of Things is included in the “Queer Utopia” selection. In Space Is Quite a Lot of Things, curiosity about a world without gender sets a journey through a world of jellyfish and disco uncles, creating space for four trans people to share how they relate (or not) to their own gender, imagine visions of their own queer utopia, and reveal whether gender can be felt in your toes.
Jussi Eerola’s Blue Honda Civic is streaming in the joint programme “A Trip Through Europe“. The romantic landscape paintings often portrayed weather condition, topography of national landscape, religious themes, spirituality of nature and hunting scenes. Blue Honda Civic is a minimalistic road movie mirroring the emotions of the driver through the landscapes (s)he has chosen to look at.
