The 8th Cairo Video Festival, held from February 5–28, features works by Pink Twins and Johanna Lecklin.
The festival programme includes the single-channel version of Pink Twins’ Parametronomicon (2015). Parametronomicon presents a model of parametric virtual life. A biomechanic organism moves, multiplies and regenerates in an elaborate series of convulsive movements. Its life spans from simple formations to inevitable apocalyptic visions of an over-the-top visual orgy.
Pink Twins is a duo of visual artists and electronic musicians, brothers Juha (b. 1978) and Vesa Vehviläinen (b. 1974), based in Helsinki, Finland. Active as Pink Twins since 1997, their videos work on the crossing of visual art and music. Pink Twins have shown their works in exhibitions and festivals in all continents and performed audiovisual live shows through Europe, Americas, Asia and Australia.

Still from: Lecklin: Maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there (2016)
Johanna Lecklin’s latest short film, Maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there (2016), will also be screened at the festival. The piece is a portrait of a narcissist. His boss and colleagues admire him and his ex-wife, mistress and girlfriend tell their view of him. The film consists of monologues performed in the form of tableau vivants that refer to art historical compositions. A possible crime story is built up by the testimonies of the people around the man.
Johanna Lecklin (b. 1972) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2003 and studied in London at the Slade School of Fine Art, in UCL. Lecklin works with video and photography. Her video work is based on documentary, narrativity and performativity. Lecklin’s works have been presented in numerous exhibitions in Finland and abroad, including the City States exhibition at Liverpool Biennial (2010) and It’s a Setup at Contemporary Art Museum Kiasma in Helsinki (2010).
