Pasi Autio’s Feel the Heat depicts a one-man disco in a forest at night, and the atmosphere is magnificent – the lights are flashing, birds are singing, dancing continues and time disappears. The night cannot go on forever and, in the morning, the surrounding reality is revealed.
Hanna Hovitie’s Square the Circle asks how to be a circle in a square world? In a two-dimensional space, out of time, a person seeks their belonging to the world through a journey to infinity.
In Arttu Nieminen’s Lift Up Your Voices, voice from the nonplace of an all-embracing algorithm addresses humanity in its last gasps. Punctuated by a song based on a stanza from Emily Dickinson’s poem “I felt a Funeral, in my Brain”, the Voice invites us to break bread and pray together, and to face the deadly consequences of our human desires. Finally, the Voice implores us to lift up our own voices against the hell of misbelieving.
The Creature in Nina Lassila‘s The Creature is a character that the artist has created out of old electronic waste. The creature is an obvious metaphor for our ageing. Simultaneously it brings up the horrific evidence of our culture of consumption. In this case the consumption of electronic gadgets. It also portrays societies need for upgrading everything all the time.
