Go Short International Short Film Festival Nijmegen presents Pilvi Takala’s retrospective

Go Short International Short Film Festival Nijmegen presents Pilvi Takala’s retrospective. The programme includes also new shorts by Anssi Kasitonni, Ville Koskinen, Elli Vuorinen, and Matti Harju. Go Short is held from April 3–7 2024 in the Netherlands.

Pilvi Takala: The Stroker (2019)

Pilvi Takala is Go Short’s filmmaker in focus this year! Her films distinguish themselves by her own performative interventions, very often in public spaces. Getting too comfortably close in an office space, dressing up as Snow White to go to Disneyland, by seeking discomfort, she disrupts social norms to question the underlying structures of our everyday behaviour. Pilvi Takala will discuss her career and the way she approaches her films after the screening. The screening takes place on Friday, April 5 2024, at 19:15 in LUX 5. The screening includes the following short films:

Anssi Kasitonni: Pena’s Special Hauling (2024)

Anssi Kasitonni’s Pena’s Special Hauling (2024) will be screened in the European Competition 9 “Behind the Veil” on Friday, April 5 2024, at 22:00 in LUX 1. Kasitonni’s new short film is a story of Pena who has been driving a semi-truck for 50 years and is about to continue the same way in the future, despite his slight memory problems.

Ville Koskinen’s Magnifica: Passive Intruder (2024) will have two screenings, first in the European Competition 14 “Nature Strikes Back” on Saturday, April 6 2024, at 15:00 in LUX 1, and later the same day in “Go Short Favorites” at 21:45 in LUX 3. Magnifica is a short documentary about the encounters between Finnish cottagers and a mysterious species called Pectinatella Magnifica. The film observes the people facing the new alien phenomena and their attempts to get rid of the uninvited visitor.

Elli Vuorinen’s Flower Show will be screened in the European Competition 3 “How to Start a Garden”, on Thursday, April 4, at 19:00 in LUX 3. Flower Show is a short animation on the ways girls have been cultivated like flowers for generations.

Matti Harju’s Ecstasy will be screened in the programme “Kill Your Darlings” on Saturday, April 6, at 15:15 in LUX 3. Set in the darkest time of the year, a feverish and delirious film about a small and ever-shrinking island – the Ecstasy – located somewhere between the search for pleasure and the inherently destructive powers of capitalism.
