After Everything by Pekka Sassi, Primus Tempus by Azar Saiyar and Parametronomicon by Pink Twins have been chosen to participate in the International Competition of the second edition of Kino der Kunst in Munich, Germany from April 22 to 26. through AV-arkki’s distribution.
After Everything and Parametronomicon will have their European premiere at KINO DER KUNST.
After Everything shows a dystopian world where brutality and inhumanity are commonplace and part of everyday routine. The atmosphere of doom is emphasized by the combination of black and white footage, harsh settings and industrial noise music. The powerful story leads to a situation in which brutality is victorious, yet beyond total destruction there is also room for a new beginning.
Pekka Sassi (b. 1969) is a wide-ranging artist who has studied in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. He makes experimental sound and video works, many of which are purely sound pieces and audio installations. He has made over 100 short films and videos since 1995. His works have been presented at several domestic and foreign festivals. He was awarded with the AVEK Prize for audio-visual art in 2006 and in 2010 he won the prize for best film in EMAF in Osnabruck, Germany.

In Primus Tempus, recognisable fragments of television commercials create an illusion that is different from the original clips. The images are still enchanting and appealing, but lack a direct connection to the original product. The context and interpretation become more vague and open.
Azar Saiyar (b. 1979) is an Iranian-Finnish visual artist and filmmaker. She grew up in Finland and Sweden, and has studied in Turku Arts Academy and University of Art and Design Helsinki. Saiyar’s films have been presented in festivals and events in Finland and abroad. This spring, Primus Tempus has also been presented in Akbank Short Film Festival in Istanbul, Turkey, the International Women’s Film Festival in Dortmund, Germany and in MEDIAWAVE in Komarom, Hungary.

Parametronomicon presents a model of parametric virtual life. A biomechanic organism moves, multiplies and regenerates in an elaborate series of convulsive movements. Its life spans from simple formations to inevitable apocalyptic visions of an over-the-top visual orgy.
Pink Twins is a duo of visual artists and electronic musicians, brothers Juha (b. 1978) and Vesa Vehviläinen (b. 1974), based in Helsinki, Finland. Active as Pink Twins since 1997, their videos work on the crossing of visual art and music. Live Pink Twins deliver improvised digital soundscapes, often combined with video screenings. Pink Twins have shown their works in exhibitions and festivals in all continents and performed audiovisual live shows through Europe, Americas, Asia and Australia.
KINO DER KUNST is a unique event of its kind worldwide to present films by visual artists who take cinema beyond its traditional boundaries and explore new narrative fictitious forms. KINO DER KUNST is designed to be an exhibition and a film festival in one, creating a showcase for today’s trends in art and an international meeting point for artists, curators and the public. In 2015, it focuses on the subject ‘Science & Fiction’ and explores the latest techniques of narration in films by visual artists, thereby demonstrating how much technological inventions and concepts of contemporary art dominate the commercial media industry. The program includes current short and long artists´ films from all over the world in the highly endowed International Competition.
A jury of famous artists and curators – including Hans Ulrich Obrist from London, Yang Fudong from Shanghai and Munich collector Ingvild Goetz – will award two main prizes KINO DER KUNST in the International Competition totalling €20,000, one of them goes to an artist up to the age of 35.
