
Maarit Suomi-Väänänen’s 3x Minispectacles Out of Tune (2020, in featured image) and Juha van Ingen’s 2020 (2020) have been selected for the International Competition at Paris Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux. The festival is held from October 7–18. The International Competition will be broadcast from October 15–17 at Cinéma Grand Action and La Clef Revival, and will be streamed online as well.
Minispectacles is a series of one-minute films, cinematic haikus. Minispectacles 45-47/100 Out of Tune are making the rounds with the sounds in Hungary and Switzerland. All the way to the 100min feature film. Woman with pocket camera.
Maarit Suomi-Väänänen (b.1966) works as a filmmaker and media artist. Praised as fascinating, absurd and open to a multitude of interpretations, Suomi-Väänänen’s award-winning works are shown in exhibitions, on TV, at biennales and festivals over 40 countries. Suomi-Väänänen has won two main prizes: Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Montreal, 2009 and Toronto Urban Film Festival 2014.
Juha van Ingen (b. 1963) lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. He works with different mediums, though he has mainly been working with video. The starting point for van Ingen’s works is often a situation, space or a concept, which he happens to encounter. Random elements that evolve during the working processes play an equally important role in his works. Van Ingen has participated in international exhibitions, screenings and video festivals since 1988. His new short film 2020 is a travelogue of a journey accross Europe in March 2020.
