Diego Bruno, Jaakko Pallasvuo and Sasha Huber at IFFR 2016

Diego Bruno’s, Jaakko Pallasvuo’s and Sasha Huber’s films have been selected to The International Film Festival Rotterdam’s programme.

Tuomas Laitinen’s, Timo Wright’s and Petra Lindholm’s films will be featured at AV-arkki’s press and industry screening.

IFFR 2016 takes place between 27 January – 7 February in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) offers a high quality line-up of carefully selected fiction and documentary feature films, short films and media art. The festival’s focus is on recent work by talented new filmmakers.

Diego Bruno’s (b. 1978) film Galindez will be screened in combined programme State of the Nation.  The film is based on the play El señor Galindez by psychoanalyst, dramaturge and actor Eduardo Pavlovsky, which centres on repression and torture in Argentina in 1972. The camera meticulously explores the now empty theatre where the play premiered. It feels just as oppressive as it must have done then.

Jaakko Pallasvuo’s (b. 1987) film Picasso will be screened in the part of combined programme Fountains of Youth. Pallasvuo’s film is an imaginary dialogue between the artist and Picasso about their similarities and differences in ego, working process, search for images, creating art. “I do not seek, I find,” Picasso says. And he means it. The rest of us are still looking. The film is also an exploration into the idea of video art and the methods of an essay film.
