Maija Blåfield’s On Destruction and Preservation (2017) is included in the Memory Appendix exhibition in Van Eyck Institute, Maastricht. Open from 4.5.–15.6.2018, the exhibition deals with the relationship between time and memory.
On Destruction and Preservation was previously installed in the Ars Fennica 2017 exhibition in Kiasma, as Maija Blåfield is one of the nominees. The screening version of the work had its world festival premiere in April in the mid-length documentary film competition of Visions du réel international documentary film festival, Nyon.
The narration of On Destruction and Preservation ranges from essay film to direct documentary while stories vary from a sex scene of fungi to a sightseeing tour into the climate change in the arctic Svalbard.
Maija Blåfield is a filmmaker and artist from Helsinki, Finland. Her works lay between experimental film and documentary. She was granted the State Prize for the Media Arts in 2014 and nominated for Ars Fennica award on 2017.
