Maija Tammi’s The Problem of the Hydra (2020, in featured image) and Kaisu Koski’s DermaBread (2021) will be screened at the 57th International Festival of Science Documentary Films, held from April 26 to May 1 2022 in Academia Film Olomouc, Czech Republic. Both films are included in the short film programme 1 “Risks of Progress“, screened on Tuesday, April 26, at 22:00 in Theater Hall, and on Thursday, April 28, at 11:30 in CMTF Hall.
Maija Tammi’s The Problem of the Hydra is an experimental documentary film about the practical and metaphysical problems a small fresh-water polyp, known as Hydra, has caused since the 1700s to the present day. Contrary to most animals, Hydra vulgaris does not age – at all.
DermaBread, the short experimental documentary by artist and scientist Kaisu Koski presents a speculative surgical simulator. In her work and research, Koski deals with the relationship between humans and nonhuman issues including climate change and vaccine rejection.
