MOONWALK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moonwalk is about walking on the moon and not about the moon and going to the moon and
walking with the moon and going forward with the moon and going backward with the moon
and staying exactly where you are with the moon<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The window exhibition MOONWALK<\/em> presents moving image works by M\u00fcge Y\u0131ld\u0131z and Kai Oka from AV-arkki\u2019s archive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M\u00fcge Y\u0131ld\u0131z\u2019s film A Trip to the Moon<\/a> (2016, 10\u201917) borrows its title from Georges M\u00e9li\u00e8s renowned work of early cinema, created over 100 years ago. Y\u0131ld\u0131z wanted to revisit the idea of space travel by combining 16mm footage of NASA\u2019s Apollo Missions with archival footage to express her feelings
about the human aspect of space travel, and life in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai Oka\u2019s Oblivion Way<\/a> (1974, 15\u2019) is filmed near the futuristic office and shopping centre complex Place Ville Marie in Montr\u00e9al. The bustling streets are juxtaposed with reproduced images of Raquel Welch, the walk on the Moon, op art, hospital series, and show wrestling shot from a television screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M\u00fcge Y\u0131ld\u0131z<\/strong> is a Turkish artist-filmmaker and researcher based in Finland. Her artistic practice blends experimental filmmaking with hybrid techniques\u2013<\/em>both analogue and digital\u2013<\/em>and nonhuman partnership, pushing the boundaries of traditional filmmaking. She produces experimental images, employing a shooting method she calls being a ghost<\/em>. She works largely with analogue films such as 8mm, super 8 and 35mm, 16mm, archive sound and footage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kai Oka<\/strong> grew up in Belgium and Canada and is currently based in Finland. His interest in experimental film began during his studies at the McGill University, Montr\u00e9al. Oka has very briefly worked in the film industry, mainly as a freelancer for The National Film Board of Canada. His work is inspired by well known directors such as Stan Brakhage, Michael Snow, Yasujir\u014d Ozu, Jean-Luc Godard and Krzysztof Kie\u015blowski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
