The World Wide Video programme at PyeongChang Biennale, South Korea, features three works from AV-arkki’s distribution. IC-98’s Theses on the Body Politic (Colony) (2010), Maarit Suomi-Väänänen’s Log Head (2015) and Ewa Górzna’s & Katarzyna Miron’s Encounter (2016) are installed in Gangneung E-zen Convention Center from February 3–26. The PyeongChang Biennale is an international art exhibition that was established in 2013 by the National Special Act to host the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games as a successful Culture Olympic.
The World Wide Video programme is curated by Mr. Sung Yonghee and Mrs. Ahn Hyunsook, Co-director, MAKU.
Ewa Górzna’s and Katarzyna Miron’s Encounter (2016) is a short film reflecting on the human desire to approach, understand and experience an animal in the wilderness. It depicts an unusual situation where the animal is the observer and the human is being observed.
Maarit Suomi-Väänänen’s Log Head (2015) is an experimental comedy about a birch log with a soul and a pair of skis. When old and useless, and ready to be chopped, Log Head takes off to its skis. Will Log Head’s escape be blocked?
Theses on the Body Politic (Colony) (2010) by IC-98 depicts an isolated island in the middle of the sea with egg stealing birds circling around it. The view is seen from high above the birds among the clouds.
