Synopsis in English
The video installation Haapavesi – Helsinki is a narrative that deals with themes of growing up, memory and movement. It is driven by a voiceover taken from a 1960s documentary film, which introduces Haapavesi, a rural municipality in the Northern Finland, where the artist was born and raised. The narration talks about Haapavesi’s main line of business and industrial development. The artist juxtaposes his everyday rituals, which take place in his two room Helsinki apartment building flat, with images of a Northern Finnish lake landscape. The piece shows how the childhood landscape and memories affect in an adult’s life.

Synopsis in Finnish
Taiteilija on rinnastanut teoksessa omia arkipäiväisiä rituaalejaan helsinkiläisessä kerrostalokaksiossa kuviin pohjoissuomalaisesta järvimaisemasta. Teoksesta käy ilmi, kuinka lapsuuden maisema ja muistot vaikuttavat aikuisen elämässä.
