Main events of 2005
View05 Festival
During the fifth View Festival, AV-arkki also celebrated its 15th
anniversary. The venues were Gallery Forum Box and cinema Andorra. A total
of 100 works by 48 different artists were presented. In connection with the
festival, the first AV-arkki honorary award for promoting media art in
Finland was presented to Perttu Rastas, special planner for the Museum of
Contemporary Art, Kiasma.
An open seminar was organized in connection with the festival on the theme;
"The teen-age of video art, AV-arkki 15 years" – perspectives on the future
and history of Finnish media art. The View05 festival was a success and
attracted notable international visitors. Through these contacts, AV-arkki
can continue to develop international interest in Finnish media art and
create new international networks for media art.
Tampere International Short Film
Festival
AV-arkki has had its own screening series at the Tampere International
Short Film Festival for several years now. The 2006 screenings will also be
the world premiere of the 2006 AV-arkki screening compilations. Our
collaboration with the Tampere International Short Film Festival has been
fruitful and we hope it will continue in the years to come.
Media art in Boston
Finnish media and video art attracted a lot of attention in Boston in April
– May 2005. AV-arkki collaborated with curator Heather Kapplow, based on
the East Coast of the U.S.A., to produce two events presenting Finnish
media and video art. A total of 15 Finnish artists' works were shown,
including four installation works.
Festival in Gothenburg
A major event, the "View05 - Finnish art marathon", was organized in
Gothenburg, Sweden, in the Spring of 2005. The entire programme of the
View05 festival was screened for the Swedish public. 42 Finnish media
artists took part in the event.
Collaboration with Culture Factory
Korjaamo
AV-arkki participated in Culture Factory Korjaamo's autumn event by
compiling a media art series titled "Helsinki International". The Helsinki
International event had 3000 visitors during 10 days.
Love & Anarchy Festival
In the Autumn of 2005, AV-arkki organized a screening at the Museum of
Contemporary Art, Kiasma, which was inspired by the Love & Anarchy
Festival. This "Love Bites" screening series was presented four times
during one weekend. It included works by 19 artists.
