Kaamos Trilogy

Mäkelä Mia

In this meditative and poetic artwork, images are constantly repeated and permutated within an expanded, hovering time frame. Mäkelä juxtaposes the narrative abstraction typical of music videos with digital pictorial practices. The story is about the search for light in darkness by digital shamanistic means during the dark months (kaamos) of the Finnish winter. Two women travel to a healing spring but the way back home isn’t what it used to be.
