In May AV-arkki and Frame are hosting two art media experts; Steph Kretowicz from AQNB and Caroline Heron from Video in Common in London. They will hold a workshop on the 24th May at Frame’s office.
In the workshop Kretowicz and Heron will introduce their own practices within online communication and introduce different ways artists and art organisations can use the online space for making, exhibiting and discussing art. The workshop is aimed at art professionals from critics to galleries and artists, and it will be tailored according to the participants and their needs and wishes. The workshop is meant to encourage creative, varied and effective ways of using the internet in different art contexts.
The workshop is free of charge and will be held in English. You can apply by emailing Frame’s programme coordinator Maikki Lavikkala at maikki.lavikkala@frame-finland.fi by 23rd April. Please attach in your email a short description of why you are interested in taking part in the workshop; what challenges or successes have you experienced with online communication? We will consider these answers and wishes when planning the workshop structure.
Video in Common is a production company for cultural organisations and visual arts YouTube channel. Caroline Heron setup Video in Common in 2012 as part of her then role as General Manager of Mute Publishing on behalf of the Common Practice network establishing it a standalone company in 2014. She joined Mute in 2008 after graduating from an MA in Interactive Media: Critical Theory & Practice at Goldsmiths, University of London (now Digital Cultures). From 2009-14 Caroline was also co-organiser of the Art of Digital London (AoDL), a research and events programme for digital strategy in culture.
Video in Common is currently producing a year-long Wellcome Trust funded research and film project – ‘Night Shifts’ – with artist Martin Kohout.
Steph Kretowicz is co-founder and editor of arts editorial platform AQNB. Since 2012 she has developed the focus of the platform around multidisciplinary media art, gathering and strengthening ties in this new field of practice.
Steph is also an independent journalist with over 10 years experience in the arts and music. She is a regular contributor to Flash Art, Frieze, The Fader, FACT Magazine, Resident Advisor, and The Wire, among noted publications. In the past she has contributed to art and music journals and anthologies, including Arcadia Missa’s How To Sleep Faster 5, LADA’s Live Art Almanac and the Deste Prize 2015 Catalogue for award winner Angelo Plessas.
Steph’s first book Somewhere I’ve Never Been will be published on TLTRPreß and Pool Press in Spring 2017.
